The first step into Egypt feels less like arriving in a country and more like stepping into the opening chapter of civilization itself.

Is there anything more iconic to see in Egypt on your first morning than a pyramid?

This is Djoser's Step Pyramid, the oldest stone building in the world.

Walking there under that impossibly blue Egyptian sky, I kept thinking, this was humanity's first attempt to reach eternity in stone, and somehow, 5,000 years later, it still leaves you speechless.

Inside an ancient tomb, we stood before the carved images and hieroglyphs of a physician from thousands of years ago.

A reminder that even in antiquity, people searched for healing, wisdom, and meaning, much as we do today.

You need to come and have a look.

See, there is a woman in labor.

Throughout it all, our extraordinary Egyptologist, Hanan, patiently guided us through every temple, tomb, and monument, separating historical fact from myth, and somehow making the hieroglyphs feel less like symbols on stone and more like messages waiting patiently to be understood.

So this is the name of the king I'm working for.

He's my boss.

Then came Cairo's great citadel and the magnificent Mosque of Muhammad Ali.

The soaring alabaster walls, the domes, the light filtering through chandeliers and stained glass.

I remember simply standing in the middle, turning slowly in amazement, trying to absorb it all.

Egypt does that to you repeatedly.

It overwhelms the senses, then somehow expands them.

Day two began at Cairo's GEM.

As if Egypt needed something to lure us in again, this morning we're at the magnificent Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the largest museums in the world.

Grand somehow still feels too small a word.

The scale leaves you speechless.

Sunlight pours across stone and glass.

Massive statues stand as if they have merely been waiting for us to arrive.

Gold shines with eternal luster.

And beyond it all, almost impossibly, the pyramids themselves remain on the horizon, a reminder that Egypt has always thought in terms of eternity.

That afternoon brought the iconic Pyramids of Giza, one of those rare places on Earth that somehow exceeds every expectation.

I rode a camel named Charlie with the pyramids rising behind us.

But the real star was Moses, a camel convinced I was his long-lost grandmother.

And I like-- Oh, I love you, Moses.

Every time we paused, he wandered back, looking for more attention and more pets.

It's okay, Moses.

Aw, good boy.

Good boy, Charlie.

And if you think you can't do that at 70, you can.

As the sun began to set, we ended the evening in the winding lanes of the Khan Al-Khalili bazaar, where Cairo becomes a swirl of color, music, lanterns, spices, and endless discovery.

Dinner, shopping, conversations, and the joyful chaos of the market felt like the perfect ending to two unforgettable days.

Cairo is frenetic and timeless, ancient and electric all at once.

It holds more treasures than perhaps anywhere else on Earth.

But in the end, the greatest treasure is not found in a museum or inside a pyramid.

It's found in the warmth of the people, in the generosity of every welcome, in the hospitality rooted in thousands of years of history, and in the shared joy of discovery that makes Egypt impossible not to love.
