This was our 7th Viking Cruise. The Helgrim might be a smaller ship but the service was not economised. All of the crew made our trip enjoyable. We expect superb treatment and were not disappointed. Well done to all.

2024I received great service
I have been on one other Viking river cruise and two Viking ocean cruises. All three were amazing, but the best was the Douro River cruise! I received great service from every single manager! Each one went out of their way to help me, even with little details that I should have known. The hotel manager, program manager, maitre’d, guest services and concierge performed at the highest standard possible. Onboard entertainment was a hoot! I never participate in “games for grown-ups,” but it was too fun to resist. Overall, the friendliness and attention the crew showed was way above my expectations. I could not end this without mentioning the captain of the Viking Hemming, he too was the best and gave us a keen sense of confidence and safety. The Viking Hemming and its crew should be voted Viking’s ship of the year.

2019What a memorable trip
A truly “golden” adventure. My sister and I took our first Viking cruise on the Passage to Eastern Europe and had been impressed with Viking’s service. For years, I’d wanted to explore the Douro River of Portugal, being interested in “roads”—or in this case, rivers—less traveled. This trip exceeded my expectations and proved without any doubt that Viking’s attention to service and to hiring a real “team” of happy crew members pays off for everyone on board. Not only were the excursions—both included and optional—excellent, as was the cuisine, but the camaraderie among the staff was obvious. What a memorable trip! Hopefully, every other passenger on this trip in the future will experience the beauty and history that the Douro River affords as well as Viking’s delightful and personal service.

2018Cannot find one single negative.
After our first Viking river cruise in 2016, we made a toast with friends we met on board to book the Douro River in 2018. We cannot say enough about how great both trips were. The staff, the food and accommodations are 10+ stars, the ports and local guides so interesting and varied in all aspects of local life. We love that we have structured tours yet plenty of free time to explore on our own... We cannot find one single negative about the entire Viking experience. The best endorsement I can give is that both us and our new/old friends just booked the Danube for 2020. Thank you Viking family!
