River Overview

The Seine is a major river of northwestern France and, since it runs right through Paris, is a major tourist attraction. It starts in Dijon and runs northwest nearly 500 miles to the English Channel at Le Havre; the mouth of the river is dredged so that oceangoing vessels can dock as far upriver as Rouen. The banks of the Seine in Paris became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
