Serbia is a central European country, home to just over 10 million people. The modern state of Serbia emerged in 1817; the country’s current borders were set after World War II when Yugoslavia was formed. Serbia became an independent state again in 2006. Travelers enjoy visiting the capital city, Belgrade, the two other largest cities, Novi Sad and Niš, and the country’s mountain resorts and spas.
