Day 1
Transfer from the airport to the superior first-class Marseille Radisson Blu (or similar).* Free time to enjoy the Mediterranean scenery and sample the local cuisine.
Day 2
Take a guided tour of Marseille, featuring Le Panier, the city’s oldest quarter, as well as city and coastal views and the iconic classical opera house. The rest of your day is at leisure; visit the Musée d’Histoire de Marseille, relax in a café or take a short boat ride out to Château D’If, a 16th-century island fortress where the Count of Monte Cristo was (fictionally) imprisoned. Make sure to try some bouillabaisse; it is the area’s signature dish. (B)
Day 3
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and begin the ride to embark your ship in Avignon. Enjoy glorious views along the way—during the months of July and August, this road is known as the Lavender Route, and you will see some of native son Paul Cézanne’s cypress trees any time of the year. On the way, stop in charming Aix-en-Provence for a brief tour and some free time—art lovers may want to visit the recently renovated Musée Granet. We take you to your ship to begin your cruise. (B)
