Pre-Extension: Ghent
3-night pre-extension in Ghent - $649 per person
Day 1
We meet you at the Brussels airport and transfer you to the Ghent Marriott (or equivalent).* Take the rest of the day to begin exploring and enjoy local specialties.
Day 2
After breakfast, take a guided walking tour of Ghent. See churches in Romanesque and Flemish style, and tour St. Bavo's Cathedral with its van Eyck altarpiece “Adoration of the Lamb.” See the towering belfry, which served as both bell tower and cloth exchange during the Middle Ages. Walk along the canals and quays, where you see Golden Age merchant houses, guilds and charming bridges. Your afternoon and evening are free for further exploration. (B)
Day 3
You have a full day to explore more of Ghent. Visit the Ghent Museum of Fine Arts, housed in a classical-style building inaugurated in 1904 and presenting paintings from the 14th to the 19th centuries, or the Design Museum, with antique and modern household objects on display. Experience historic life and culture at the Huis van Alijn museum, and walk through the medieval districts of Patershol and Kraanlei. For dinner, indulge in some mussels and local beers, or try one of the city’s many ethnic restaurants. (B)
Day 4
We take you to your ship to begin your river cruise. (B)
