Egypt River Cruise - Edfu
“I must say it was not a vacation; it was an immersion in Egypt’s incredibly long past and fascinating present.... Every day was punctuated with an unforgettable moment—like a hot air balloon ride or a felucca ride on the Nile.”

About Edfu River Cruises

Edfu is a city located on the west bank of the Nile River in Egypt. It is the home of a temple dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus; the temple was built between 237 B.C. and 57 B.C. during the Ptolemaic era; as a relatively young Egyptian temple, it is rather well preserved. It has a grand entrance, carved hieroglyphics, rows of lotus-capitaled columns and statues of the falcon-headed god.

The area is also the site of an ancient settlement near the temple site. Although not as grand, Tell Edfu is filled with interesting artifacts that have told archeologists much about life in the area as far back as the Predynastic Period prior to 3100 B.C.

About three miles north of Edfu there are remains of ancient step pyramids estimated to be from the Third Dynasty.
