His legacy includes the Charlottenburg Palace, Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Palace, which was the main residence for the House of Hohenzollern for centuries. The modern face of Berlin came after World War II with an emergence of striking modernist buildings, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, International Congress Center and the Fernsehturm (TV Tower)—which was erected as a symbol of communist power.
